Bernard, a painter and poet, offers a deep look into Van Gogh's life, artistic struggles, and process. In the 1890s, Bernard wrote prefaces for collections of Van Gogh’s letters, some published and others not. In 1911, Bernard compiled these prefaces into a publication, including new reflections and Van Gogh’s letters and sketches. This collection, now published in English for the first time, also highlights Van Gogh’s advice to Bernard, his creative struggles, and their shared artistic community, including figures like Monet and Gauguin.
